1967 Monteverdi High Speed 375 S

Like Jensen, Bizzarini, de Tomaso, and Intermeccanica, the Monteverdi High Speed 375 combined European elegance with an American heart. Specifically, it used the talents of F1 racing driver and manufacturer Peter Monteverdi with reliable power from Chryslers big-block V8.

Like Jensen, Bizzarini, de Tomaso, and Intermeccanica, the Monteverdi High Speed 375 combined European elegance with an American heart. Specifically, it used the talents of F1 racing driver and manufacturer Peter Monteverdi with reliable power from Chrysler’s big-block V8.

As his first performance passenger car, and with little capital, Monteverdi brought the first High Speed 375 to the 1967 Geneva Show. Its Frua styling, brute power and luxurious appointments guaranteed Monteverdi ample orders.

Throughout the production run several interesting developments were laid upon the High Speed. Eventually, the 426-Hemi could be special ordered and body variants including the 375 L convertible, as well as a four-door became available. Bodies varied in subtle detail and some cars received very interesting Fissore designs.

Monteverdi’s plans didn’t end with the 375, and in 1973 the mid-engine Hai was released as an answer to the Ferrari BBLM and Lamborghini Miura. Despite making over a thousand 375s, the radical Hai was only made 3 or 4 times.
